How does self storage work at Extra Room?

Extra Room offers purpose built storage rooms housed within a modern, temperature and humidity controlled building. Your storage items are protected by the latest state-of-the-art CCTV and security systems for total peace of mind. Storage rooms are available in a wide range of sizes to suit your requirements - you simply rent a room that offers just the right amount of space for your goods so you only pay for the space you need.

Can I call in without an appointment to view the storage rooms?

Yes. We recommend you come along and view our facilities. There is no better way to gauge the size of room you will require and see first hand the quality of storage we have available. Reception is open from 8:30am to 6:00pm Monday to Friday and 9:00am to 3:00pm on Saturday.

How do I get my goods to you?

You can use your own transport or we can organise collection for you. We can also recommend great value local van hire and removal companies that we trust and have been working with for many years. With hundreds of moves in and out of Extra Room each year, removal firms know that if they are reliable, professional and competitively priced they will benefit from continued custom.

How often can I access my room and how much does it cost?

At Extra Room you have free, unlimited access to your goods during long opening hours and out of hours by prior arrangement.

What sort of security do you have?

Extra Room’s first priority is to safeguard the security of your goods. Further information on our extensive security measures are detailed on the security page.

Is the store suitable for storing electrical items?

Yes. Our storage facility offers a temperature and humidity controlled, damp free environment. We also have a large under cover loading bay for dry, comfortable loading and unloading.

Does anyone else have access to my room?

No. Your storage room is private to you and your chosen representatives only. Access to your room is with your own key.

Can I move in today?

Yes. Subject to availability you can move in today. However, to be guaranteed a room of a specific size it is advisable to reserve your space in advance. Simply call us on 0800 232 1631, click reserve a room, or pay us a visit.

How far in advance can I book a room?

We give you the flexibility to make a reservation up to six months in advance. Even if you're not sure of the exact date that you would like to move in just let us know an estimated start time and update us when you know more. We'll make sure there's room for you.

What if I have reserved a room and my plans change?

No problem, just let us know about your changes and we will amend the reservation at no cost to you.

Can I transfer to another room if I find I have too much or too little space?

You are welcome to move to another size storage room at any time subject to availability. Your storage charge will be amended accordingly from the day you transfer rooms.

What is the minimum or maximum storage period?

You can store for as long or short a time as you require the storage space, however we do have a minimum charge period of two weeks.

How can I pay for my storage room?

You can pay by debit or credit card either in person or over the telephone, cheque or we can arrange a standing order for you. Payment is due monthly in advance, discounts are available for longer prepayments.

Does it matter if I don’t know how long I need to store for?

Not at all. At Extra Room storage is kept flexible so you can move in and out when you want.

Do I have to give you notice to leave?

We only require seven days' notice to vacate your room. If you have given notice a refund will be processed when you leave for any storage you have paid for but not used. Notice can be given in person, in writing, by fax, phone or e-mail. If you are unable to give seven days notice you can still move your goods out of storage but you will be charged for seven days rent that you have paid for but not used.

Are there any restrictions on what I can store?

You can store almost anything at Extra Room, but in the interest of everyone's safety, storage of the following items is prohibited:

  • Living items such as plants or animals
  • Hazardous materials such as flammable liquids and explosives
  • Items that could decompose such as exposed foodstuffs
  • Unauthorised or illegal goods, such as drugs or firearms

If you are storing machinery that contains fuel e.g. a lawnmower, the fuel must be drained before it can be put into storage.

What about insurance?

If you care enough about your property to store it we strongly advise that you insure it. We can insure your goods for you or you can arrange your own insurance. If you have a household or business insurance policy running whilst your goods are in storage you may find they are covered under this policy. What do I need to bring to open a storage agreement?

Two forms of ID are required one of which must be photo ID (e.g. passport or driving licence) and the other a utility bill less than 3 months old. You will also need your first payment.

Can you receive items on my behalf?

Yes we can accept deliveries for you in your absence.

Can I put shelving in my room?

Yes as long as it's free standing you can install your own shelving or we can provide shelving for you.

Can I buy boxes and packaging materials from Extra Room and do you deliver?

Yes, we sell an extensive range of packaging materials from boxes to bubble wrap. Whether you store with us or not, packaging materials can be bought in person from the store or we offer free delivery to Nuneaton, Hinckley, Tamworth and Atherstone postal addresses.
